London and London Marathon is very special

London Marathon is held each spring since 1981 and is today one of the five top world marathons that are included in the World Marathon Majors competition. Each year more than 35,000 runners are participating and almost a million people come to support the runners, making the event not just a marathon, but also a 42 km long street party.

Of course London is not only for marathon runners, London is a very special city because it contains four World Heritages Sites declared by UNESCO: the Tower of London, the Kew Gardens, the historic area of Greenwich and a site which comprises other three main attractions: Westminster Abbey, St. Margaret’s Church and the Palace of Westminster. Beside these ones, tourists also visit in London the Buckingham Palace along with the guard changing that fascinates them, the St. Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, the Wembley Stadium, the Tower Bridge, the London Eye which offers a great view of Thames and the entire city, the British Museum, the British Library, the National Gallery, Piccadilly Circus and the Madame Tussauds Museum. These landmarks are seen annually by over 14 million international visitors and other 27 million who come in London and just stay overnight. This huge number of tourists requires 350,000 workers in the city’s tourism industry.

Besides landmarks known all over the world which bring people to London continuously, the capital is home to famous designers, such as Vivienne Westowood, Jimmy Choo, Stella McCartney, Galliano and Manolo Blahnik. Moreover, London is renowned as well for the fact that it houses renowned art and fashion houses which provide the place with new talented designers year after year. This makes it one of the fashion capitals of the world, along with Milan, New York and Paris.

This year, 2012, the marathon will take place 22nd of April. We recommend early booking if you need a hotel room close or during this date and period. Take a look at ExcelBooking.com and The London Marathon official web site
